Canmore, Alberta native and experimental folk artist Layten Kramer has released a brand new single.

The song, titled “Deranged,” is off of the musician’s forthcoming debut full-length album, on which he will be collaborating with some notable people including JUNO Award-winning producer Colin Stewart (Dan Mangan, Yukon Blonde), Kathryn Calder of The New Pornographers, and Geoff Hilhorst of The Deep Dark Woods.

With Kramer’s climbing voice and understated arrangements, “Deranged” possesses the dreamy, folk elements that have always formed the foundation of his sound. However, the track’s beautifully structured surges of synth, splashy percussion, and epic backing harmonies, with clean transitions through varying levels of tempo, displays Kramer’s growth as an artist while taking the listener on a captivating journey.

Kramer, who took the Grand Prize at the Calgary Stampede Talent Search in 2014, is participating in this year’s PEAK Performance Project Alberta, playing under his own name alongside friends and bandmates Dean Kheroufi (bass, synth) and Connor Ellinger (drums). They currently rank in the Top 12.

Layten Kramer performs in Calgary at the Boyce Theatre on July 11 and at The Palomino on July 11.
