The Raptors have begun branding themselves as ‘Canada’s team’ in recent years and it appears to be working. Their ‘We the North’ campaign has been wildly successful.

Winning helps too, of course, and the Raptors have done a lot of that lately. They made it to the Eastern Conference Finals last year and have 153 regular season wins over the last three years.

The Raptors have steadily increased their footprint on the country, helped by touring during the preseason. Last year they made stops in Vancouver, Montreal, and Ottawa. The last time the Raptors visited Alberta was in 2008, also against the Nuggets, when the two teams clashed in Edmonton.

It’s been a while since Calgary has seen the Raptors though. There hasn’t been an NBA preseason game in Calgary since 1996, when the Raptors and Vancouver Grizzlies played the second edition of the Naismith Cup.

This year the Raptors will hold part of their training camp in Vancouver, before playing a preseason game there on October 1st, two days before the game in Calgary.
