It's back: Another severe thunderstorm watch issued for Calgary

Jul 20 2018, 2:34 am

A severe thunderstorm watch is (once again) in place for the City of Calgary.

While an initial watch was issued by Environment Canada early Wednesday and subsided by evening, another has just been put into effect as of 10:31 am this morning.

As with yesterday’s advisory, large hail, heavy rain, and strong winds are all possibilities as thunderstorms increase along the foothills this afternoon, which are then expected to head east later into the evening.

It is recommended to stay inside during the storm, as hail and wind can damage buildings, break tree branches, and even overturn vehicles.

Flash floods and large poolings of water on roads should also be looked out for, and lightning is always a possible danger during thunderstorms.

The watch will remain in place until the storms subside.

Anyone looking to report severe weather in their area can emailĀ [email protected]Ā or tweet using the #ABStorm hashtag.
