The sun may be shining now, but Calgary’s weather could be set for a 180 later today.

In fact Environment Canada has issued a weather alert, warning of thunderstorms and large hail across the city later today.

“An approaching upper disturbance will initiate thunderstorms along the foothills this afternoon through the early evening. Some of these thunderstorms could become severe and produce up to loonie sized hail,” reads the watch.

“Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles.”

The thunderstorms are set to arrive in the area later this afternoon and continue into Monday evening.
