Calgary Pride

  • What: Calgary Pride is in partnership with a number of communities and groups resulting in an entire week of events that celebrate equality and acceptance of Calgary’s LGBTQA community.
  • Where: Various locations
  • When: Now to Monday, September 7

Disney’s The Lion King Calgary 2015 at Southern Jubilee Auditorium

  • What: Travel to the African savanna to marvel at the jumping gazelles, swooping birds, majestic lions and more in the Broadway musical. Listen to the unforgettable songs, like “The Circle of Life”, and the incredible vocalists and musicians producing them.
  • Where: Southern Jubilee Auditorium – 1415, 14 Avenue NW, Calgary
  • When: Now through September 6, Tuesday to Saturday 7:30 p.m. and Sunday 6:30 p.m. Matinee Performances Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m.
  • Cost: $40 to $110

Theatre Calgary: The Shoplifters

  • What: A comedy about  a women named Alma who thinks that her discount is of the “five-finger” variety and when she gets caught by a security guard more is revealed.
  • Where: Max Bell Theatre – 220 9th Ave SE, Calgary
  • When: Tuesday, September 1 to Thursday, September 27
  • Cost: $35 and up

St.Patrick’s Island: Outdoor Movie Series

  • What: Watch movies on the Rise in their 9-metre high natural amphitheatre. You are welcome to bring blankets but don’t bring chairs as it is on a slope. This week’s movie is Jaws.
  • Where: St. Patrick’s Island
  • When: Thursday, September 3 from 9 to 10:45 p.m.
  • Cost: Free

Downtown Street Piano series

  • What: For four years, Downtown Calgary has commissioned outdoor street pianos to encourage people to play and listen to music. On Tuesday, Brandon Smith (soul/jazz/pop) will play and on Thursday, Dave Marshall (pop/rock) will play .
  • Where: Woodlands piano – 3rd street and 6th Avenue SW, Calgary
  • When: Tuesday, September 1 and Thursday, September 3 from noon to 1 p.m.
  • Cost: Free

Easter Seals Drop Zone Calgary

  • What: Drop down Sun Life Plaza in downtown Calgary dressed as your favourite superhero or watch as your favourite superheros repel down the side of the building. They will be Raising money for Albertans with disabilities and special needs.
  • Where: Sun Life Tower 144 – 4th Avenue SW, Calgary
  • When: Thursday, September 3 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Cost: $1,500 to participate in the “drop down”; Free for spectators

Hillhurst Sunnyside Community Association: Farmers Market

  • What: These markets will be every Wednesday rain or shine. They strive for quality food and goods that are produced from local farmers, food creators and artisans.
  • Where: Hillhurst Sunnyside Community Association – 1320 5 Ave NW, Calgary
  • When: Wednesdays, now to October from 3 to 7 p.m.

Airdrie Farmers Market

  • What: Variety of fresh local goods to products like quilts, you are sure to find something interesting at this farmers market.
  • Where: Jensen Park, Airdrie
  • When: Wednesdays, now to October 12 3:30 to 7 p.m.

Honens Festival & Piano Competition

  • What: The festival is 10 days of music-making, including the Semifinals and Finals of the Honens Piano Competition. Honens searches for the Complete Pianist, a 21rst century artist, out of 10 contestants. The winner will receive $100,000 and a career development program.
  • Where: Jack Singer Concert Hall, Arts Commons – 205 8 Ave SE,
    Calgary
  • When: Thursday, September 3 to Saturday, September 12, times vary
  • Cost: $460 festival pass, Single tickets range in price

Calgary Tennis Club: Men’s ITF Pro Circuit Tennis

  • What: Supporting Tennis Canada and Tennis Alberta, a week long International Tennis Federation Men’s Pro Circuit Tournament will take place where athletes can compete for an ATP World Tour.

  • When: Now to Sunday, September 6
  • Cost: free

Mad Decent Block Party

  • What: Listen to artists like Daktyl, Klingande, Major Lazer, ODESZA, Party Favor, RL Grime, Sam Feldt, Smalltown DJs and more!
  • Where: Shaw Millennium Park – 1220 9 Ave SW, Calgary
  • When: Friday, September 4 from 2 to 11 p.m.
  • Cost: $65 and up
