The Teal Pumpkin Project lets kids know you're allergy friendly this Halloween

For most kids, Halloween is the one time of year where they can eat loads of candy without consequence – and half the fun is the surprise of each treat.

For kids with food allergies, however, the element of surprise can be dangerous.

That’s where the Teal Pumpkin Project comes in. Those participating in the project display a teal painted pumpkin on their front door to indicate to trick-or-treaters that they’re supplying non-food treats, such as stickers or temporary tattoos – and it allows those with allergies to know they’re welcome and safe.

The Teal Pumpkin Project takes place in seven countries around the world and over 100,000 households have taken the pledge to provide non-food options for children with food allergies.

The project is presented by Food Allergies Research and Education (FARE). In order to participate, just do one (or all) of the following:

• Donate to FARE and receive a free Teal Pumpkin Project window sticker
• Download the free materials to display in your window and use the hashtag #tealpumpkinproject to help spread the word
• Host a Teal Pumpkin Project fundraiser to support FARE
