With the 2016 JUNO Awards coming to Calgary Sunday, April 3, now is the perfect time to look back at what 2015 was like for Canadian musicians.
Of course we could look at album sales, downloads or Youtube plays for clues. But thanks to a new report from Google Canada we can find out exactly what piqued Canadian music fans’s interest on the international search engine and its music service Google Play, in 2015.
In terms of new music, 2015 was a big year for artists Shawn Mendes and Alessia Cara. Mendes was the most listened to Canadian musician of 2015, while Cara saw a 134% increase in searches, coming in at #6 on the list.
As for more… personal questions, the top Canadian artists attracting the public’s interest are (unsurprisingly) lead by world-wide favourites like Justin Bieber and Drake, with The Weeknd and Shawn Mendes pulling up for than a few results too.
