Get ready to take 'Shelter' at Calgary's newest secret lounge

Aug 10 2017, 8:41 am

Another pre-prohibition lounge is tiptoeing into Calgary’s cocktail scene.

Promising delicious food, irresistible libations, and an escape from the bustling urban streets, Shelter YYC is now open at 1210 1st Street SW.

This cozy space meshes swanky hotel elegance by incorporating hotel bar decor from the States with Berlin and Eastern European industrial style touches like a captivating wall full of gas masks to create a relaxed upscale and refined grunge ambience.

The light fixture that gives the space a moody glow is made from 5000 individually hung light bulbs. Look for the black flag to know where to enter this intimate lounge in the Beltline neighbourhood. Stop by Wednesday through Saturday from 4:30pm until late.

With a survival style menu-that you could only dream you had prepped for Y2K-offering thick cut house cured pork belly served with cola mustard and Ichiban gnocchi made with soy nut pesto along with a local and old world wine list and rotating list of crafted cocktails flowing you’ll have 99 reasons (& no end-of-the-world problems) to take shelter regularly.
