Security staff believed the woman to be “highly intoxicated,” said the release, and that she struck one of the officers after police and security requested her to cooperate vocally.

Police then moved in to arrest her, but she “resisted vigorously, striking and kicking both police officer repeatedly.”

More police officers arrived to assist in the arrest, and the woman was arrested without injury, according to the release. Two officers sustained minor injuries.

The woman’s companion was also arrested on the scene for attempting to intervene on the woman’s arrest.

Both are scheduled for court on December 19, with the woman facing three charges of assault on a police officer, two charges of resisting a police officer, uttering threats, and mischief.

The 27-year-old man is charged with uttering threats and mischief.

The Red Deer Rebels lost their game 3-1 to the Kootenay Ice.
