Raptors' Kyle Lowry selected for NBA All-Star Game

As expected, Kyle Lowry has been selected to play in the NBA All-Star Game.

The Raptors point guard was named as a reserve for the Eastern Conference. This will be Lowry’s third consecutive All-Star Game appearance after being voted in as a start the last two seasons.

For the second straight year, the Raptors will be represented by two players in the All-Star Game as DeMar DeRozan was voted in as a starter last week. Previous to Lowry and DeRozan, the only time the Raptors had two players in the mid-season spectacle was in 2001 when Vince Carter and Antonio Davis played.

Reserve players were chosen by the 30 NBA coaches, who were asked to vote for seven players from other teams in their respective conferences.

Lowry is having a career year, averaging career highs in points (22.4) and rebounds (4.8) through 45 games. The 30-year-old Villanova product ranks fourth in the NBA in three pointers made (143) and 10th in field goal percentage (.422).

Also named as Eastern Conference reserves were: Paul George (Indiana), Kevin Love (Cleveland), Paul Millsap (Atlanta), Isaiah Thomas (Boston), Kemba Walker (Charlotte), and John Wall (Washington). They’ll join starters DeRozan, Giannis Antetokounmpo (Milwaukee), Jimmy Butler (Chicago), Kyrie Irving (Cleveland), and LeBron James (Cleveland).

West reserves named include: DeMarcus Cousins (Sacramento), Marc Gasol (Memphis), Draymond Green (Golden State), Gordon Hayward (Utah), DeAndre Jordan (LA Clippers), Klay Thompson (Golden State), and Russell Westbrook (Oklahoma City). They’ll be joined by starters Anthony Davis (New Orleans), Kevin Durant (Golden State), Kawhi Leonard (San Antonio), James Harden (Houston), and Stephen Curry (Golden State).
