Calgary's Leaf and Pumpkin Composting Program offers alternative to landfill this Halloween

You’ve got to love Halloween – the creepy costumes, the terrible treats and all those beautiful carved pumpkins out front.

But let’s fess up. How many gourds did you get through before you perfected your design? And what on earth are you going to do with them now?

This year, taking them to the City of Calgary’s Leaf and Pumpkin Composting Program is one option, running through Sunday, November 6.

Just bring your bagged pumpkins (and leaves) to a drop-off location around Calgary, and they will be composted instead of sent to landfill.

There are 35 drop-off points to choose from. Note that no sod, branches or rocks are accepted in the program. Paper bags are better than plastic.
