From terrific tacos to cool ceviche, it’s possible to find the whole enchilada in this city. Here are five must-try Mexican restaurants in Calgary.

Añejo

Tequila lovers will appreciate Añejo’s dedication to the spirit (and it’s cousin, mezcal), with an impressive roster of styles and brands available to taste, as well as a great cocktail menu. When it comes to food, the menu showcases a meld of traditional and contemporary/fusion flavours–like Korean Short Rib Tacos, for example. Fans of classic Mexican fare will want to look for the Platos Mexicanos section of the menu to find dishes like a chicken mole, or meat, fish or veggie molcajete.

Native Tongues Taqueria

Sure, their name focuses on tacos (taqueria) but Native Tongues offers much more in the way of excellent Mexican fare. From small plates of dishes like Elotes (grilled corn on the cob smothered in cheese) and a Ceviche Tostada, to a Mexican-inspired burger, along with desserts, and a wicked cocktail menu, this spot really hits the spot if you’re craving a quality Mexican meal.

El Charrito Taqueria

Head to this family-run spot in Northeast Calgary for authentic Mexican casual staples served up in a super-laid back and casual spot. There are tons of tacos on the menu, served double-wrapped, along with enchiladas, burrito, and traditional soups and stews on the weekend.

Tu Tierra

Breakfast, lunch, and dinner is served at Tu Tierra. The day starts off with morning classics, like Huevos Rancheros and Chilaquiles. Lunch, served from 11 to 4, focuses on standard casual far like tacos, enchiladas, quesadillas, and burritos. Dinner is served from 4 to 9, and the menu expands to include larger plates and specialities, like fajitas or combo platters.
