Last week marked the opening of Made By Marcus’ first brick-and-mortar scoop shop and microcreamy at 121 – 1013 17th Avenue SW.
The small batch, artisanal ice cream maker first debuted in Calgary in 2012, and has been steadily making a name for itself ever since.
Known for its creative flavours and premium quality, Made By Marcus products were up until now only available for purchase at selected retail outlets, like Blush Lane and Community, but now the frozen treat purveyor is bringing pleasure to Calgary’s Lower Mount Royal neighborhood just in time for summer.
Replacing Buttercream Bakery, Made By Marcus’ first location features an assortment of ice cream flavours, available by the scoop or in soft serve form. The storefront also boasts a take-away freezer that houses grab-and-go pints and tubs.

In terms of flavour combos, Made By Marcus owner Marcus Purtzki says, “we try to be a bit adventurous with flavours.”
Customers who drop by the 12-seater shop will discover flavour pairings like Passionfruit Basil, Tonka Bean Cherry, and Pistachio Strawberry.
A selection of Made By Marcus baked products, like macarons and an array of pastries (pecan pies, tarts, and croissants) are also available, as well as coffee from Monogram Coffee, who are currently doing a pop-up in the store.
The microcreamery is open from 8 am to 10 pm daily.
