The world's largest YMCA is opening in Canada this January (PHOTOS)
Calgary may be home to what is currently consideredĀ the largest YMCA in the world ā the Shane Homes YMCA clocked in at an astounding 284,000-sq-ft when it opened its doors in February ā but a new centre is set to open that will steal that title… and it’s also located in YYC.
The Brookfield Residential YMCA will be officially open for business on January 14, 2019, and the facility has already invited thousands of Calgarians in to check out the lay of the land.

Located in Calgary’s Seton neighbourhood, the facility spans 330,000-sq-ft and includesĀ a 10 lane pool, a 25,000-sq-ft library, a surf-simulator (yes, seriously), a 250-seat theatre, and two multi-purpose ice rinks.

Photos of construction were made available in February, and a video was posted in May that showcases just what the Brookfield YMCA will look like once January 2019 comes around.

Public tours of the building began on December 8, allowing thousands of Calgarians and visitors alike the chance to see what will be offered to start on January 14.
Tours will be available throughout December and January leading up to the grand opening, and anyone who would like to take a look at the new YMCA can do so between noon and 7 pm Monday through Friday and from 10 am to 2 pm on Saturdays.
Those hours will be shortened to 10 am to 2 pm on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, and the tours will be closed on Sundays, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and New Year’s Day.
The facility has also begun offering membership sales, and anyone who signs up before December 31 will save up to $75, according to YMCA Calgary’s website.
