Here are the road closures to look out for this Labour Day weekend (MAP)

We’re not gonna lie… driving around Calgary this weekend is going to get a little messy.

While the long weekend brings with it plenty of fun events, great excuses to get together with friends and family, and the perfect sendoff to the summer, it will also see plenty of road closures all over the city.

Thankfully, the city was kind enough to supply a list of potentially problematic areas for anyone trying to get from A to B this weekend, so be sure to take a look through and see if any of these spots are on your planned commute:

Southwest

• 11th Street SW will be closed between 6th Avenue SW and 9th Avenue SW beginning at 7 p. on Friday, August 31 until 5 am on Tuesday, September 4. This closure accommodates underground utility work.
• 11th Street SW will have reduced lanes between 8th Avenue SW and 9th Avenue SW, as well as a single left lane closure on 9th Avenue SW at 11th Street SW beginning at 5 am on Tuesday, September 4 until 8 pm on Monday, September 17. These closures accommodate underground utility work.
• Heritage Drive will have lanes closed between Macleod Trail and 4A Street SW on Saturday, September 1 from 11 am to 6 pm and Sunday, September 2 from 7 am to 3 pm. Two-way traffic set up on opposite side of construction both days. This closure accommodates paving.
• Richmond Road SW will have lanes closed between 30th Street and 37th Street as well as 37th Street and 51st Street SW beginning on Saturday, September 1 until Sunday, September 2 daily from 4 am to 4 pm. There will be a two-way traffic set up on opposite side of construction. Detour routes to 26 Avenue SW to the north and Sarcee Road to the south will be posted via signage. This closure accommodates paving.
• Eastbound 8th Avenue SW will be closed between 8th Street SW and 9th Street SW nightly from 9 pm to 5 am until Wednesday, September 5. This closure accommodates underground utility work.
• Anderson Road will be reduced by one lane in both directions, west of 24 Street SW from 8 am to 3:30 pm (daily) until Saturday, September 1 for road construction related to Anderson Road widening and upgrades.
  
  14 Street S.W. Transitway Project closures
• The right lane on eastbound Southland Drive will be closed at 14th Street SW from 9 am to 3 pm on Friday, August 31, plus 7 am to 7 pm on Saturday, September 1 and Sunday, September 2.
• The right lane on westbound Southland Drive will be closed east of 14th Street SW from 9 am to 3 pm on Friday, August 31, plus 7 am to 7 pm on Saturday, September 1 and Sunday, September 2.
• The left lane on eastbound Southland Drive will be closed west of Bradbury Drive SW from 9 am to 3 pm on Friday, August 31, plus 7 am to 7 pm on Saturday, September 1 and Sunday, September 2.
• The left lane on westbound Southland Drive will be closed west of Bradbury Drive SW from 9 am to 3 pm on Friday, August 31, plus 7 am to 7 pm on Saturday, September 1 and Sunday, September 2.
• The right lane on southbound 14th Street SW will be closed between 90th Avenue SW and Southland Drive from 8:30 am to 3 pm on Friday, August 31, plus 7 am to 7 pm on Saturday, September 1 and Sunday, September 2.
• The right lane on northbound 14th Street SW will be closed at Southland Drive from 9:15 am to 4 pm on Friday, August 31, plus 7 am to 7 pm on Saturday, September 1 and Sunday, September 2.

Southeast

• Barlow Trail SE will be closed between 26th Street and 27th Street SE starting Friday, August 31 at 7 pm until Tuesday, September 4 at 5 am. This closure accommodates construction.

• 17th Avenue SE and 19th Street SE will be closed beginning Friday, August 31 at 7 pm until Tuesday, September 4 at 5 am. This closure accommodates construction.

• 17th Avenue SE will be closed between 47th Street and 48 Street SE starting Friday, August 31 at 7 pm until Sunday, September 2 at noon. This closure accommodates construction.

• 90th Avenue SE will have reduced lanes between 40th Street and 44th Street SE starting Saturday, September 1 at 7 am until Sunday, September 2 at 7 pm. This closure accommodates construction.

• Confluence Way SE will be closed between 6th Avenue SE and 5th Street SE from 7 am to 4 pm on Friday, August 31. This closure accommodates construction.
• The lower deck of the Centre Street Bridge will be closed between Riverfront Avenue SE and Memorial Drive NE beginning at 9 am Friday, August 24 until 7 pm Tuesday, September 11. This closure accommodates bridge work. Please use an alternate route.

Special Event Road Closures

Shaw Charity Classic Golf Tournament – Friday, August 31 to Sunday, September 2

The following roads will be closed from 5 am to 8 pm daily:

• 14th Street SW from Anderson Road to the intersection of Canyon Meadows Drive and Elbow Drive.
• Residential access will be maintained but parking will be restricted in residential areas.

There is no public parking at the event site.

Calgary Pride Festival – Sunday, September 2

• The following roads will be closed between 6 am and 3 pm:
  • Riverfront Avenue SE from Centre Street S to Confluence Way SE
  • Macleod Trail SE from 4th Avenue SE to Riverfront Avenue SE
  • 1st Street SE from 3rd Avenue SE to Riverfront Avenue SE
  • 3rd Street SE from 4th Avenue SE to Riverfront Avenue SE
  • 4th Street SE from 7th Avenue SE to Riverfront Avenue SE
  • 6th Avenue SE from 5th Street SE to 3rd Street SE
  • The Reconciliation Bridge from Memorial Drive NE to Riverfront Avenue SE
• The following roads will be closed between 10:30 am and 3 pm:
  • Macleod Trail SE from 9th Avenue SE to 6th Avenue SE
  • 1st Street SE from 5th Avenue SE to 6th Avenue SE
  • Centre Street S from 4th Avenue S to 9th Avenue S
  • 1st Street SW from 5th Avenue SW to 9th Avenue SW
  • 2nd Street SW from 5th Avenue SW to 9th Avenue SW
  • 3rd Street SW from 5th Avenue SW to 8th Avenue SW
  • 4th Street SW from 6th Avenue SW to 8th Avenue SW
  • 5th Street SW from 5th Avenue SW to 8th Avenue SW
  • 6th Street SW from 8th Avenue SW to Eau Claire Avenue SW
  • 6th Avenue SE / SW from 3rd Street SE to 6th Street SW
• The following roads will be closed between 11:30 am and 3 pm:
  • 5th Street SW from Eau Claire Avenue SW to 2nd Avenue SW
  • Eau Claire Avenue SW from 5th Street SW to 6th Street SW
  • 2nd Avenue SW from 4th Street SW to 7th Street SW
  • 3rd Avenue SW from 4th Street SW to 7th Street SW
  • 4th Avenue SW from 5th Street SW to 6th Street SW
  • 5th Avenue SW from 7th Street SW to 5th Street SW

Police will be in the area directing traffic and motorists are advised to watch for pedestrians.
