Where to watch hockey's World Junior Championship in Calgary

With the World Junior Hockey Championship preliminary games beginning on Boxing Day and concluding on January 6, in Finland, many people here in Calgary will be the lookout for a local bar with great screens, top sound quality, and a good atmosphere, to cheer on Canada’s team.

Here’s a list of sport bars in Calgary where you can watch all of the World Junior Championship hockey action unfold.

Schanks Sports Grill – Calgary South

Home to 72 regular-sized Tvs and 13 big screens, hockey fans won’t miss a puck, when they drop by Schanks Sports Grill to watch the World Juniors. Schanks will be open on Boxing Day, and will screen all of the games up until and including the ones played on January 6.

Shark Club – Calgary North

This sports-friendly bar will open up their doors on Boxing Day to screen the first of the World Junior Championship preliminary games. Shark Club’s Calgary North outpost features three media walls, 25 screens scattered throughout the Sports Bar, in addition to 11 TVs located on the patio.

The Pint 

Come game day, including Boxing Day, this 17th Avenue sports bar will dedicate their Tvs to the World Junior Championship. Patrons can expect a lively atmosphere, a menu featuring comforting pub grub, and a variety of alcoholic beverages.

Shark Club – Deerfoot Meadows

Interested in watching the World Junior Championship on the largest LED TV in town? Head on over to Shark Club’s Deerfoot Meadow location. In addition to housing 50 regular Tvs, the dedicated sports bar boasts one wall-sized screen. The bar also features a range of beers, ciders, spirits, cocktails and an appetizing snacks menu.

Atlas Pizza & Sports Bar

They love their sports at the Atlas Pizza & Sports Bar, so much so the Marlborough locale will screen all of the World Junior Championship games. Open on Boxing Day and for the remaining games this laid-back joint will show the games with sound.

Captain Sports Lounge & Grill

Catch the World Junior Championship at the Captain Sports Lounge & Grill. While management has confirmed that the games will be screened, it seems as though patrons will most likely have to request for the sound to be on too. The sports bar will be open Boxing Day.

The Garage Sports Bar

The Garage Sports Bar is a great place to kick-back and watch the game. The sports bar can’t guarantee that there sound will be on, so best to call ahead to check. Regardless of the sound levels the games will be played, from the first match up to and including the last.
