Sure, the sun might be making the occasional appearance in Calgary nowadays, but there’s just something missing from the picture…

Oh, yeah, a giant blue ocean and white sand beaches.

Luckily enough for those of us living here in the present world of technological advances, we happen to have huge sky buses at our disposal — some people call them airplanes.

Our friends over at YYC Deals have recently noticed that United Airlines has lowered their prices on roundtrip flights out to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, which happens to have a few of those beaches and oceans we mentioned earlier.

Now, we know “Fort Lauderdale” may not sound as enticing as its neighbouring cities of Pompano Beach, Miami, or West Palm Beach, but we can guarantee that it is equally as beachy — it just also happens to be a fort.

If you’re hoping to make a visit out to this beach town on the other side of the continent, here’s how to do it.

First, look up flights from Calgary to Fort Lauderdale on good ol’ Google Flights, and find the roundtrips that are showing up for around $306.

You should be able to find that price for a bunch of different dates between October 2018 and March 2019, so just go ahead and pick out your favourites.

Flight from Calgary to Fort Lauderdale, Florida (Momondo.ca)

Take those dates over to Momondo, punch them in, and you should find the same flights popping up for around $296.

You will have an hour or two worth of layovers on the way there and back, but we’d say that it’s worth the $100 to $200 you’d be saving to kill an hour by eating a sandwich at a Houston airport.

All that’s left to do is book the tickets, pack up your stuff (wait a few months), and then it’s nothing but blue skies, sandy beaches, and historical fort locations!
