The Calgary Flames have made a big splash in NHL free agency, inking left winger James Neal to a five-year contract worth $5.75 million per season.

Neal, 30, is coming off a 25-goal season with the surprising Vegas Golden Knights. A reliable, consistent goal-scorer, Neal has potted more than 20 in a season in 10 straight years.

At 6-foot-2, 221 pounds, Neal gives Calgary good size up front, to go with his big-game experience. He’s played in the Stanley Cup Final in each of the last two seasons, with Nashville and Vegas.

Flames GM Brad Treliving has done quick work this offseason, changing the mix of a team that disappointed last year. New head coach Bill Peters should have plenty of options with the additions of Neal, Derek Ryan, Elias Lindholm, and Noah Hanifin.
