EA Sports simulator predicts Flames finish behind Oilers, miss playoffs in 2016-17

The makers of the popular NHL series of video games is predicting a heartbreaking end to the regular season for the Calgary Flames.

The EA Sports simulator has Edmonton snagging the last playoff spot in the Pacific Division with 85 points, one point ahead of the Flames.

After making the playoffs in 2015, the Flames took a step back last season, finishing with the fifth-worst record in the NHL. But with the expected improvement of their young players and key acquisitions such as Brian Elliott and Troy Brouwer, a better showing in the standings looks like a lock.

Yesterday, USA Today predicted better results for the Flames, having them with 99 points and home ice advantage in the playoffs.

Calgary begins the regular season on the road in Edmonton on October 12th. Those two teams will play each other again two nights later at the Saddledome.
