Driving ranges and golf courses beginning to open in Calgary

If there was ever a sure sign that spring has arrived, it’s the opening of golf courses in Calgary.

The city has just made it through a rather snowy winter (and first half of spring), but it appears that the clouds have finally parted for blue skies and warm sunshine as April comes to a close.

The metre-high snow piles are slowly (but surely) melting away around Calgary, unveiling the green grasses of the area’s many golf courses.

While it will take a few solid groundskeepers to get those fairways in working order, courses around the city have started to offer tee times as early as this week.

Driving ranges are also open to the public, for anyone looking to take a few hundred or so practice swings before getting back out for 18 holes.

The driving ranges at Lynx Ridge Golf Club, Shaganappi Point Golf Course, and McCall Lake Golf Course are all currently open for business, and Calgarians can hit the links at Blue Devil Golf Club, Lynx Ridge, and Fox Hollow, though more courses are expected to open throughout this week and the next.

Potential golfers should be happy to hear that there will be clear skies and warm days ahead, with the only blip on the radar coming in the form of a chance of rain on Sunday.

We doubt tee times are still available, but if you can secure a spot for this Saturday, you’ll be enjoying temperatures of 23°C and clear skies.

Welcome back to Calgary, spring!
