Get your candles and fireworks ready, Diwali is almost here.
Also known as the Festival of Light, Diwali originated in India, but is celebrated across the world – including Calgary.
This year, Diwali takes place on October 30, but the festivities stretch over several days.

Calgary Celebrates Diwali
- What: United Way of Calgary is commemorating South-Asian communities across the city with its annual Diwali celebration event, featuring performances from top Indian dance groups, a colourful fashion show plus sari and turban tying.
- Where: Calgary Chinese Cultural Centre – 197-1st Street SW
- When: Monday, October 24, from 5 to 9 pm
- Admission: Entry is free
RANA Diwali Milan
- What: The Rajasthan Association of North America brings you this Diwali celebration, including music and dance performances, a finger-licking vegetarian dinner, Calgary’s most popular Bollywood DJ
- Where: Genesis Centre – 7555 Falconridge Blvd NE
- When: Saturday, November 5, at 6 pm

Diwali Mela
- What: Celebrate Diwali Mela with the Hindu Society of Calgary, taste delicious chatpata Indian food, and enjoy entertainment, dance, music and raffles.
- Where: Hindu Mandir – 2225 24 Avenue NE
- When: Sunday, October 16, from 11 am to 2 pm
- Admission: Entry is free
Diwali Dhoom
- What: This first ever Diwali Dhoom celebration will feature cultural performances, an open DJ dance floor, snacks and a dinner buffet, plus door entry prizes.
- Where: Temple Community Hall – 167 Templegreen Road NE
- When: Saturday, October 22, at 5 pm

Diwali – Awakening the Light Within
- What: This evening of “inner brilliance” gives you a chance to hear from Ron FitzSimons, longtime Raja Yoga teacher, amid a celebration filled with reflection, entertainment and ceremony.
