You know when a Calgarian restaurant is mentioned by Vogue, it’s gotta be good.

Deane House Restaurant in Fort Calgary opened in mid-September after a lengthy renovation, and it has been expertly serving Calgarians modern Canadian cuisine ever since.

The Victorian house may be 110 years old (built in 1906 for the Superintendent of Fort Calgary, Captain Richard Deane), but the cuisine is fresher than fresh. This spot uses regional and seasonal ingredients to create delicious contemporary dishes.

Forming the menu around the idea of ‘farm, forage, prairie, coast,’ Executive Chef Jamie Harling – formerly of Rouge – knows a thing or two about how to make customers keep coming back for more. By integrating locally-foraged ingredients into comfort food classics like the Driview Farms Rabbit Perogies, and the Ember Roasted Winter Squash, Deane House has become a reliable and satisfying dining option for locals and visitors alike.

For late night visitors at the house there’s a bar menu available with quick bites like the Poplar Bluff Potato Chip and the Wood Fired Merguez Sausage. These dishes pair perfectly with a cocktail from the impressively-stocked bar.

Deane House also offers a brunch with all of the staples and then some, by that we mean Captain Deane’s Pantry – AKA an ‘Unlimited Selection of Fresh Baked Pastries’ – you had us at unlimited. Also, just so you know – Sunday dinners at Deane’s are corkage-free.

The ambiance of the restaurant makes it a comfortable place to settle in and relax, and the decor gives off ample charm as there are nods to Captain Deane scattered throughout. The revamped historical house is chock-full of personality and boasts a new enclosed veranda, Tenement Bar, an outdoor patio, and an upstairs library with a bar worthy of a scholar.

Deane House is run by the same restauranteurs who brought you the uber-successful River Café, so you know your meal here will be quality. Pricing is similar to the cafe on Prince’s Island Park, ranging anywhere from $25 to $45.

Deane House is open from Tuesday to Sunday for brunch (10am Saturday and Sunday), lunch (11am weekdays), and dinner (5pm daily).
