Slated to open on February 5, Earth Cravings will feature 100 per cent gluten-free offerings, which will include five different kinds of pizza — The Incan Pizza, Pesto Chicken, Beet-za, Fig, and the Do You Dare?, which comes covered in critters.
This unique ingredient choice nods to the eating habits of owner Angela Villavicencio’s Aboriginal ancestry.
“One thing I’ve learned is that my ancestors ate insects and to this day many still do. However, most societies see this as something dirty. What many of us fail to recognize is that insects, such as crickets, are full of nutrition, even more so than some farmed animals,” elaborates Villavicencio.
In addition to the crickets, the Do You Dare? pizza also comes topped with tomato sauce, wagyu beef pepperoni, and mozzarella cheese, so there are a few familiar taste sensations–that is, until you bite into a crunchy cricket!
