Artificial Intelligence (AI) is an emerging field in Canada, and with it comes the need to fill some highly-skilled jobs.

In fact, last year, the Government of Canada launched the Pan-Canadian Artificial Intelligence Strategy helping solidify Canada’s position as a global leader in AI research.

More recently, the 2018 Federal Budget highlights the importance of investments in emerging fields like AI.

And now, job website Indeed has also shown the increase in demand for AI talent in Canada.

According to Indeed, their data shows that the share of jobs requiring AI skills in Canada has grown by 1069 % since January 2013, and at a faster growth rate than the UK and US respectively.

“Advances in artificial intelligence have stoked fears of large-scale job loss, our data shows that AI can help create jobs, too,” said Jodi Kasten, managing director at Indeed Canada.

“These jobs are also found in a variety of industries including finance and tech and for a budding and complex technology like AI, there will be continued need for highly-skilled workers to develop and maintain a wide range of AI applications in Canada.”

As for who is hiring the most AI-related jobs, with 6% of all AI jobs posted in Canada, RBC has emerged as the employer hiring the most talent in Canada, followed by IBM with 4%.
