Christmas, means there are going to be lots of concerts and shows to enjoy. From the classics to the nontraditional, here are the some of the best Christmas concerts and shows to check out in Calgary:

Cirque Musica Holiday Spectacular

  • What: Suspended above the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, performers complete incredible acrobatic feats seamlessly to holiday music favourites.
  • Where: Jack Singer Concert Hall – 205 8 Avenue SE, Calgary
  • When: Friday, December 4 and Saturday, December 5 at 8 p.m.
  • Cost: $25 to $85

A Charlie Brown Christmas

  • What: Altius Brass, a Calgary-based 18 member ensemble, is performing A Charlie Brown Christmas using brass and percussion instruments.
  • Where: Woodcliff United Church – 5010 Spruce Drive SW
  • When: Friday, December 4 at 7 p.m.
  • Cost: $15 for adults and $12 for children

Scandinavian Christmas Choir Concert

  • What: Discover Nordic Culture with an evening of songs dance and Traditional Scandinavian Christmas treats.
  • Where: Scandinavian Centre – 739 20 Avenue NW
  • When: Friday, December 4 at 7 p.m.; doors open at 6:30p.m.

StoryBook Theatre’s A Christmas Story: the musical

  • What: Hilarious is only one of the words used to describe A Christmas Story – the musical, which is based on the holiday movie favourite. It’s about a boy in the 1940s who has a huge imagination and one wish for Christmas.
  • Where: StoryBook Theatre – 375 Bermuda Drive NW
  • When: Friday, December 4 to 23; Tuesdays to Saturdays at 7 p.m., Saturdays and Sundays at 2 p.m. and Wednesdays and Thursdays at 10 a.m.

The Nutcracker by Jeunesse Ballet

  • What: A ballet that is performed in two-acts presented by Jeunesse Ballet and is about a little girl and her adventures. The beautiful and graceful performance is open to your own interpretation, come and enjoy, The Nutcracker.

Handel’s Messiah

  • What: Maestro Ivars Taurins, renowned Baroque conductor, joins the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra to perform music of faith and hope.

A Traditional Christmas

  • What: Set in Calgary’s beautiful Grace Presbyterian Church the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra will play from selection of sacred and secular holiday favourites.

Venetian Christmas

Dinner Theatre Murder Mystery: Homicide for the Holidays
