Checker Cabs offering free pizza, presents in effort to get people home safe
The wait for a Friday night cab just got a little warmer.
Checker Cabs is setting up warming tents every Friday evening this December in order to encourage would-be drunk drivers to take a cab instead.
The warming tents will be outfitted with propane heaters, free (non-alcoholic) drinks, pizza, and snacks.
Members of the Checker Street Team will also be handing out $5 vouchers for cab rides, and “Santa Cabs” will be surprising passengers with gifts throughout the holiday season.
“We wanted to do something unique for our customers this holiday season, while promoting the importance of getting home safe,” said Checker Cabs President Kurt Enders in a release.
“If we’re on the street and highly visible, people are more likely to take a cab instead of getting behind the wheel.”
The warming tent will be open from 9 pm to 1 am on Fridays December 15, 22, and 29.
On December 22 it will be set up next to the old Waves Coffee across from the National at 1527 5th Street SW.
December 15 and 29 will find the tents at 301 10th Avenue next to Briggs and Japanese Village.
No matter how you do it, please get yourselves home safe this holiday season.
