Take a free walking tour of Calgary's cemeteries

Aug 30 2017, 6:17 am

It turns out that cemeteries aren’t just for broody young teens to write angsty poetry in anymore.

Free guided walking tours are being offered for anyone wishing to learn a thing or two about Calgary cemeteries’ historical significance—and you won’t even have to go at night!

The tours are offered throughout the summer until October, along with a special Remembrance Day tour being held at Burnsland Cemetery.

Many cemeteries around Calgary played a role in the initial settlement and development of the city, and volunteer guides offer insight into the significance of Union Cemetery, Burnsland Cemetery, and St. Mary’s Cemetery.

If this tour doesn’t scare you enough, you could always try Heritage Parks Ghost Tours to really spook you out—or better yet, check out both if you really want to get to know the city’s dearly departed.
