Less than a week after several Canadian media companies removed “Baby It’s Cold Outside” from holiday airplay, CBC music has made the decision to reintroduce it.

A statement from the company was released on Tuesday, December 11, explaining how the song had been removed from two of their holiday music streams and was being reinstated.

The decision, according to Chuck Thompson of CBC Public Affairs, was made based on overwhelming feedback from listeners to include the song.

“As you know, last week we decided to press pause to consider the different points of view on playing “Baby It’s Cold Outside,” explains Thompson. “Because we value our audience input, which was overwhelmingly to include the song, we have put it back on the two playlists where it had been removed.”

Thompson also understands that some listeners will disagree with the decision and says they’re invited to skip through the song or simply listen to a different holiday stream.

“Appreciating not everyone interprets lyrics the same way, listeners may wish to skip the song as we understand not everyone will agree with this decision,” he says.

CBC Music currently has 12 curated holiday streams, including classical holidays, pop Christmas, country Christmas, and Gospel Christmas, to name a few.

CBC Music and Bell Media were just two of the Canadian companies who decided to pull the song from rotation based on its controversial lyrics.

More than 70 years old, “Baby It’s Cold Outside” was originally written in 1944 by the late Frank Loesser and used in the 1949 film Neptune’s Daughter.
