Feel ready to make a career change?
Turns out many Canadians feel the same way.
According to a recent poll conducted by Angus Reid, almost two-thirds of Canadians (63 %) say they are interested in making a significant career change, whether that means pushing for a promotion, a new employer or a new career entirely.
According to Angus Reid, 4,500 Canadian adults participated in three waves of the public opinion poll.
Three-quarters of working Canadians said they are satisfied with their current careers overall. However, the survey found that Canadians also want significant improvement in their employment situations.
The interest in better career circumstances may stem from workers’ past experiences. Most Canadians say they’ve made a significant career change before, and those who did say it was a good decision.
The type of work people do also influences job satisfaction. Those who work in managerial or executive positions, skilled trades, office and administrative jobs, and professions appear to be more satisfied with their careers.
Those working in skills and service, the knowledge and creative sectors and as unskilled labour are less satisfied.
And what do Canadians value the most when determining their work satisfaction?
Fifty-four percent of Canadians said pay and benefits are the most important factors in relation to being content with their jobs.
