Canada has ranked fifth on a global survey that ranks how powerful passports are from each country in the world.

The study was conducted by the Henley & Partners Passport Index, which ranks all of the passports of the world according to the number of countries their holders can travel to visa-free.

The Henley Passport Index surveys a total of 199 different passports against 227 different travel destinations, including countries, territories, and micro-states.

Japan takes the top spot this as it placed first out of 100 rankings.

The powerful ranking is a reflection of the country’s positive diplomatic relations that affords its citizens visa-free border crossing in 189 countries.

Canada tied for the fifth most powerful passport with Denmark, Belgium, Switzerland, and Ireland with a VFS (visa-free score) of 185.

Afghanistan and Iraq are tied for last place, as passport holders in these countries are limited to just 30 countries where they can cross through borders without being subjected to heavy vetting.
