Calgary's cheap eats for students

With the school year in full swing, you’re likely spending most, if not all, hours of the day hitting the books. But look on the bright side: you have to eat, which means you have to take a break!

Money might not be the most abundant thing in your wallet, but there are a few things you can do to help. One way to save some cash is to sign up for ATB’s Students First Account. Submarines are truly the specialty at this Vietnamese restaurant. They serve beef satay subs, stir fried chicken with onion subs and more, all for under $10. If you are not into subs they also serve vermicelli, soup and steamed rice in all sorts of varieties for less than $10.

This Mediterranean deli brings a healthy meal for a reasonable price. Their Mini Mezza Plate and their chicken & falafel plate are less than $10. Their tabouli & hummus mix and falafel sandwiches are around $5.

Yume Sushi

If you feel like having some Japanese, this is the place for you. They have lots of different options and your bill depends entirely on how big of an eater you are. It is $1 per sashimi and the price varies widely for the maki sushi rolls, but you can come out from here having had a good meal for under $10.

This little cafe and lounge likes to keep things simple, and it’s a nice spot to study away from campus. They have tasty artisan bites for under $5 and they also have good coffee, which is usually much-appreciated if you are a student.

Peters’ Drive-In

For the days you aren’t feeling too fancy, Peters’ is the perfect spot to chill out and calm down in the warmer months—so go soon since there are no indoor spots to eat! You can buy a burger for under $5, and they are known for their milkshakes which are also under $5.

Perfect for students, the U of C’s Bake Chef Co. has food items for under $5 and $10. They serve baked goods, warm buns and various drinks, but their most popular items are their Vietnamese subs. They are under $10 and are very filling.
