40 insane new foods coming to the Calgary Stampede Midway for 2017

Get your tummies ready to rumble: The Calgary Stampede has just revealed the 40 insane new foods you’re going to want to track down on the Midway this year.

From unicorn eats to plenty of pickles, this year’s eats are once again pushing the boundaries of flavour, texture, and colour. Look for Mexican-style corn on the cob slathered in Flamin’ Cheeto dust, Cotton Candy spun with maple walnut, deep fried Jell-o, poutine loaded with clam chowder, and oh so very much more. Lots of deep fried stuff, and lots (and lots) of spice.

Here are the 40 new foods you have to try at the Calgary Stampede Midway this year:

1. Cereal Monster Sandwiches

A huge hunk of ice cream sandwiched between marshmallow cereal bars. Don’t be scared!

2. Angry Chicken Sandwich

Pick a fight with this tough guy: Breaded chicken breast, dressed with chipotle aioli and sweet & sour sauce, layered with crunchy coleslaw in a warm, soft brioche bun.

3. Butter Chicken Bear Balls

Deep fried balls are smothered in butter chicken sauce, sprinkled with fresh cilantro and topped with a candy coated anise.

4. Unicorn White Hot Chocolate

Family Freezed’s decadent white hot chocolate – surrounded in rainbow sour poppers, sprinkles, sugary stars, a ribbon rainbow tail, and blanketed with a fluffy cotton candy cloud. Magical powers not included. Or are they?

5. Rabbit Pizza

Hop on down to check out a thin crust flatbread pizza topped with locally sourced and sustainably grown slow roasted pulled rabbit, drizzled with organic dark honey over a layer of mouthwatering toppings.

6. Maple Walnut Cotton Candy

Celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday with Maple Walnut Cotton Candy. Made from real maple syrup and infused with chopped walnuts.

7. Clam Chowder Poutine

Creamy clam chowder ladled on of crispy and cheesy French fries, garnished with crispy crab meat and parsley.

8. Pineapple Express Mac & Cheese

Island-style Mac! Traditional mac & cheese topped with diced ham, pineapple and a teriyaki reduction.

9. Papri Cone

A waffle cone lined with house seasoning, filled with homemade corn chips, potatoes, chickpeas, onions and doused in yogurt and tamarind sauce.

10. The Tropical Bobster

It’s Lobster poutine in the tropics: Juicy lobster, garnished with mango salsa and fresh coriander served on traditional crispy, warm fries.

11.  Double Bacon Mac N’ Cheese Dog

An award winning bacon wrapped foot long hot dog loaded with it with homemade Bacon Mac N’ Cheese.

12. Dill Pickle Pizza

Dill infused pizza mixed with cheesy goodness. Topped with a juicy dill, too.

13. Deep Fried Pork Belly

Is a description really needed? Pork belly, deep fried to golden perfection. Oink oink!

14. Deep Fried Jell-o

Each ball is stuffed with Jell-O then deep fried, and sprinkled with a sweet powdered sugar. Because, clearly, Jell-O needed to be deep fried. Duh.

15. Corn Dog Fried Shrimp

 

Two giant skewered shrimp, golden fried in Corndog King batter.

16. The Cookie Dough-ne

Raw cookie dough in a waffle cone so that you can walk around eating as you go – complete with a made to order Stampede Halo! (Cotton candy) – and sprinkles of course !

17.  Chili Chill-Chill

Freshly squeezed lemonade that is infused with three different chili peppers and a hint of lime.

18. Chili Lime Popcorn Shrimp Perogies

These mini perogies are topped with crispy panko crusted shrimp drizzled with sweet chili glaze and a spicy siracha mayo, finished with crisp cucumbers and a mist of lime juice.

19. Cheese Curds

Fried mozzarella sticks, hot and spicy jalapeño cheese, cheddar bites and Canadian cheese curds.

20. Canadian Pickle Balls
