A free fair in Calgary is hoping to get newcomers off on the right foot.

The cross-country Immigrant Fair, a free event that aims to help immigrants establish themselves in their new homes across the country, is coming to Calgary on Wednesday, October 3.

No matter if the newcomer is fleeing a war-torn country or simply seeking new opportunities here in Canada, the fair will be a way for them to find the information they need to successfully immigrate to Calgary, according to a release from Canadian Immigrant, a national magazine, website, and events producer that has been guiding newcomers since 2004.

“Immigrants are coming to Canada, and it’s our responsibility to welcome them and help them settle in and integrate into this great country,” said Sanjay Agnihotri, group publisher of Canadian Immigrant.

“Through the Canadian Immigrant Fair, we offer information on the three pillars of success for immigrating to Canada: careers, education, and settlement.”

The release states that over 300,000 immigrants and refugees arrive in Canada on an annual basis, with 12,000 people having come to Calgary in the past three quarters of 2018 alone.

It is these people that the fair is trying to help by hosting speeches, workshops, and free professional headshots during the one-day event.

“Settling into a new country is both exciting and challenging, particularly when also trying to secure employment. To that end, we are thrilled to provide resources to assist with the challenges of today’s job market through free professional photos,” said David MacLean, Director of Public Mobile.

“We look forward to participating in this cross-country fair and connecting with new members of our community.”

Attendees will be able to a check out a trade show that includes career advisors, representatives from education institutes, and job opportunities with companies like Costco and the City of Calgary.

A resume clinic, an English pronunciation class, and presentations on immigrant microloans will all be available at the fair as well.

Registration is required, and if completed before October 2 the registrant will have the change to win one year of pre-paid service from Public Mobile.
