Calgary Highland Games 2017 coming to SpringBank Park this weekend

Aug 30 2017, 1:39 am

Music, dancing, competitions, and—of course—delicious Scottish dishes will be coming to Calgary’s SpringBank Park For All Seasons for the Calgary Highland Games this year.

You don’t need to be a Scot to enjoy the festivities, though it may help you in stomaching a few of the more traditional meals (haggis sliders, anyone?).

Anyone looking for some familiar food won’t have to look far—food trucks will be in abundance, with favourites like Perogy Boyz Food Truck, Mighty Halifax Style Donair, Il forno Vagabondo, and more rolling up to the event.

Highland dancing will be showcased in all its glory, with the Highland Fling, the Scottish Lilt, and the Sword Dance all being featured in various competitions.

Somewhat larger kilted persons will also be competing, though they’ll be in the heavy events that include the Braemar Stone, the Heavy Hammer, the Open Stone, and the Sheaf competitions, to name just a few.

The event begins at 9 am on Saturday, and you can get tickets in advance from calgaryhighlandgames.org.
