It’s that time of year again, and what better way to celebrate the spooky season than scaring the bejesus out of yourself in and around Calgary with some haunted houses?

Haunted Calgary’s Hollywood Horror

  • What: Visit this attraction set in a spooky Hollywood, where you can choose to have live actors (high scare) or no actors (low scare).
  • When: Friday, October 27, Saturday, October 28, and Tuesday, October 31
  • Time: 2 pm to 4 pm (low scare) and 6 pm to 10 pm (full scare)
  • Where: 222 Rocky Ridge Bay NW
  • Admission: By donation ($10 recommended, plus two cans of food per person)

Aspen Crossing’s Train of Terror

  • What: As advertised on their website, this event is not for the faint of heart. This two-and-a-half-hour trip involves gory scenes, squeezing into small spaces, and getting up close and personal with both actors and props. If you manage to survive through the train cars, you can celebrate with some food and libations for purchase at the end.
  • When: Starts Friday, October 6, and runs Fridays and Saturdays, plus Sunday, October 29, Monday October 30, and Tuesday October 31
  • Time: Train departs at 5 pm, 7 pm, and 9 pm
  • Where: Aspen Crossing, 1 km west of Mossleigh, AB on Highway 24

AirScares Airdrie Haunted House

  • What: Airdrie’s sixth annual haunted house is called “Once Upon a Nightmare” and is being put on by the Boys & Girls Club of Airdrie.
  • When: Wednesday, October 18 to Sunday, October 22, and Wednesday, October 25 to Monday, October 30
  • Time: 7 pm to 10 pm, Fridays and Saturdays until 11 pm
  • Where: 805 Main Street, Airdrie
  • Admission: By donation

Field of Screams

  • What: Head to Cobb’s Corn Maze for the Field of Screams to experience four haunted houses. You can also take a ride on their creepy tractor.
  • When: Every Friday and Saturday in October
  • Time: 6 pm to 10 pm
  • Where: Cobb’s Corn Maze -1500 84th Street NE
  • Admission: Online, $26

Silverado Drive Haunted House

  • When: For more than 25 years the house on Midglen Way has been haunted at Halloween, with spooky decorations, scenes and effects for those willing to get a scare. They moved to Silverado Drive for the 2015 event and are back there again this year.
  • When: Monday, October 31
  • Time: From dusk to midnight
  • Where: 407 Silverado Drive SW
  • Admission: Free!

ScreamFest

  • What: ScreamFest is Canada’s biggest Halloween festival, and runs this year at The Grandstand Building at Stampede Park. Rated PG13, ScreamFest features a huge array of haunted houses, Halloween-themed carnival games, and plenty of creepy and disturbing entertainment.
  • When: Now until Tuesday, October 31
  • Time: 7 pm to midnight
