Get geared up for the long weekend!

With an extra few days off, Easter Sunday to celebrate, and plenty of fun events to check out around the city, it’s going to be hard to find the time to be bored over the next few days.

Here’s our list of great activities to check out while you’re stuffing yourself with chocolate.

Friday, March 30

Easter at the Market 

  • What: Hop on over to the Calgary Farmers Market for a full day of Easter fun! Get your photo taken with the Easter Bunny, decorate Easter cookies, and give a donation to the Calgary Food Bank to ensure that no one goes hungry this Easter. There is no better way to put a little spring in your step and enjoy some quality time with the whole family. Don’t forget to pick up some fresh produce for your Easter feast!

Letterkenny LIVE! 

  • What: The boys are coming to Calgary with their quick fists and even faster mouths.

Village Ice Cream – Plant Pop-Ups! 

  • What: For the entire month of March Calgary’s favourite ice creamery will be partnering with various companies with a green thumb to feature their pop-ups.

Bite into a croissant from Butter Block

  • What: Calgary’s newest bakery is now open and serving buttery croissants like it’s their day job – surprise, it actually is! Located in the historical Devenish Building, these guys are serving up small batch pastries, from pretzels to scones. Prepare for a carb overload that is truly delicious and not regrettable in the slightest. Pop by for a visit and #treatyourself!

Frida Kahlo: Her Photos

  • What: Get inspired as you stroll through beautiful photographs taken by the famous and fascinating Frida Kahlo. There are more than 240 pieces that were kept in her home, ‘The Blue House,” for over 50 years under her estate. Visitors will have the opportunity to better understand the woman behind the artist; her origins, her roots, her friendships and romantic relationships, her fragile health, her political tendencies, and her special relationship with photography. This is the first time this exhibition has ever been presented in Canada!

Saturday, March 31

Hit the Slopes for spring skiing

  • What: Our mountainous backyard is just waiting for us with a fluffy layer of the white stuff, perfect for winter sports and activities. Take advantage and get some spring shredding in, or take your snowshoes for an adventure around one of the many picturesque lakes that the Rockies have to offer.

March Madness

  • What: Looking for a spot to catch the games with all the basketball fanatics? National on 10th will have EVERY game up on the big screens. So come grab a beer and cheer on your favourite players!

Easter Tea

  • What: Enjoy a delicious high tea experience in the stunning dining room of the home now known as the “Famous 5 Centre of Canadian Women.” From clotted cream and buttermilk scones to ham, brie, and apple finger sandwiches, prepare to leave full from these tasty bites.

Free swimming at Calgary pools

  • What: The City of Calgary is offering free swimming at a few of their public pools this Easter Sunday
    When: Sunday, April 1
  • Time: 1 to 2:30 pm and 3 to 4:30 pm
  • Where: Acadia Aquatic and Fitness Centre, Killarney Aquatic and Recreation Centre, Renfrew Aquatic and Recreation Centre, and Sir Winston Churchill Aquatic and Recreation Centre this Easter Sunday.
  • Admission: Free!

Go snowshoeing

  • Take in the crisp outdoor air and the picturesque views as you march your way through the many trails in and around the Calgary area – plus, it’s a great workout! If you’re are more of an inner city roamer, check out Fish Creek Park Or Nose Hill for some fantastic trails closer to home. If you’re interested in taking a drive out to the Rockies, Canmore, Bragg Creek, and Banff all boast unreal trail paths that lead to some magical destinations. Be sure to check trail reports before heading out, and dress for the weather!

Cross country skiing

  • What: Cross Country Skiing can be wildly underestimated as a sport, but it is really a great workout and can be a great way to be active while enjoying the beauty of a snow-covered landscape. The best part is that you don’t even have to go very far from Calgary for a snowy cross-country skiing adventure.
  • Where: Check out one of the many popular cross-country skiing areas within the city, such as Fish Creek Park, Confederation Golf Course, Lakeview Golf Course, or South Glenmore Park. If you are interested in travelling a little bit further, check out areas just outside of the city limits, such as West Bragg Creek, Ribbon Creek, Canmore Nordic Centre, Mt. Shark Trails, or Sandy McNabb. Explore more great cross-country skiing locations within the city and outside Calgary here.

Whales Tohora

  • What: COming all the way from the National Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa, this exciting exhibition has been travelling North America for the last 10 years and Calgary marks it’s final destination. Excite your senses with this unique cultural experience that will show you everything you need to know about the king of the ocean; the whale. The exhibit shows everything from life-size whale skeletons to the evolution of these creatures and understanding how they communicate. There is so much to know about these beautiful beings.
