‘Tis the month of a brand new season and we simply cannot contain our excitement! Winter is fun, but it’s time to move on to a new phase, raise the temperature here in the city, and welcome the fresh bloom in our gardens – it’s about time, don’t you agree?
With March comes two major holidays that are both cause for celebration. First up, get ready to raise a green beer, tap your toes, and party like the Irish. You can bet there are many a green shindig happening all over the city, so you’ll have no excuse not to head out to join in on the shenanigans!
Next up, Easter! Brunches, high tea, exclusive feasts, and more, there are plenty of festivities to get the whole family preoccupied and keep the spirit of the Easter Bunny alive!
In-between these grand holidays there are so many cultural events, great performances, foodie experiences, and outdoor activities that will surely fill everyone’s schedules this month.

Hit the Slopes
What: Our mountainous backyard is just waiting for us with a fluffy layer of the white stuff, perfect for winter sports and activities. Take advantage and get some spring shredding in, or take your snowshoes for an adventure around one of the many picturesque lakes that the Rockies have to offer.
What: There is something surreal about stargazing at the top of a mountain. Glide up to the brand-new observation deck of the Banff Gondola summit and discover star clusters, galaxies, the Milky Way, Mars, and the Moon with two professional guides from the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada. If it turns out to be a cloudy evening, the astronomers will take you inside the terminal where you will continue to learn about these celestial objects. *Dress in winter appropriate clothing and expect cold temperatures and wind!*

What: Ski Mt. Norquay for only $2 on March 7 – yes, that is less than a cup of coffee! If you thought this deal couldn’t get any better, think again. Not only do you ski for $2, but your money is also donated to a local charity at the end of the season. Help them beat their $20,000 total from last year!

Take in the crisp outdoor air and the picturesque views as you march your way through the many trails in and around the Calgary area – plus, it’s a great workout! If you’re are more of an inner city roamer, check out Fish Creek Park Or Nose Hill for some fantastic trails closer to home. If you’re interested in taking a drive out to the Rockies, Canmore, Bragg Creek, and Banff all boast unreal trail paths that lead to some magical destinations. Be sure to check trail reports before heading out, and dress for the weather!
Cross Country Skiing
What: Cross Country Skiing can be wildly underestimated as a sport, but it is really a great workout and can be a great way to be active while enjoying the beauty of a snow-covered landscape. The best part is that you don’t even have to go very far from Calgary for a snowy cross-country skiing adventure.
Where: Check out one of the many popular cross-country skiing areas within the city, such as Fish Creek Park, Confederation Golf Course, Lakeview Golf Course, or South Glenmore Park. If you are interested in travelling a little bit further, check out areas just outside of the city limits, such as West Bragg Creek, Ribbon Creek, Canmore Nordic Centre, Mt. What: A brew is always better when you’ve earned it! Hop on the bike (SPIN) or reset your intentions on the mat (YOGA). Afterwards, treat yourself to a delicious bevy from Wild Rose Brewery. This will give you the refresh you need and deserve post sweat!
What: Head to Movement U for a music-infused candlelit experience that features intentional standing + flow sequences meant to restore the body, reconnect the mind and rejuvenate the soul through deep stretching and disciplined movements. This is a great way to complete your workout regime while working on challenging your balance, strength, and flexibility.
What: Dress up and have fun as you join 1,000 of your fellow Calgary runners in a race that will test your post-winter fitness abilities. This run will go to support the Calgary Road Runners and the Canadian Diabetes Association as it celebrates it’s 31st year running – literally. After the race you will can enjoy some delicious Irish stew and take your chance at winning your weight in Village Beer!
What: Get ready for Spring by coming out and celebrating the change of the season, while supporting your favourite local artists and makers! You never know what gem you’ll find that will make for a little Easter magic.

What: Looking for some inspiration, a place to write that isn’t your kitchen table, or simply some guidance on a writing project? For only $5 you can join White Space Writers every Tuesday morning and receive a work space, unlimited coffee, accessibility to writing resources (aka they will look over a piece you’re working on), and a writing prompt – if that’s what you’re interested in. Plus, you might even make a new creative friend or three, which is priceless!
What: Ever wonder how to make a French macaron? Look no further. Everyone’s favourite macaron shop, Ollia, hosts Macaron Baking Classes, offering exclusive lessons on how to properly engage in some macaronage, get the perfect shell, and create various flavours. Bon appetite!

What: Travelling all the way from the National Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa, this exciting exhibition has been travelling North America for the last 10 years and Calgary marks it’s final destination. Excite your senses with this unique cultural experience that will show you everything you need to know about the king of the ocean; the whale. The exhibit shows everything from life-size whale skeletons to the evolution of these creatures and understanding how they communicate. There is so much to know about these beautiful beings.
What: Until March 25, every weekend Banff’s Sulphur Mountain invites you to join them for Family Weekends, which includes epic views, a scavenger hunt, Sugar Shack Maple Toffee, Storytelling, Stargazing and Winter Wonderland with fire pits, a carved ice throne and massive glass bear.Experience the beauty of the Rocky Mountains in a mountaintop family adventure!
What: There is no better night for an impromptu celebration! Cuddle up by the campfire, dance the night away, and enjoy cozy hot chocolate on Centre Street. The entire street will be transformed into a midnight carnival, including music, beautiful lights, bubbles, giant games, and more! This is a family friendly event and expressive costumes are encouraged.
What: Spring is around the corner, so it’s time to get inspired! Get tips for your next renovation, explore the Tiny Home Village, or create a masterpiece to adorn your walls at a workshop with Heart and Swirl. Also, don’t miss exciting presentations by HGTV stars Todd Talbot Carson Arthur and Tiffany Pratt.
What: PAW Patrol is all the rage right now with the littles so why not make their dreams come true and let them see it in person! Prepare for non-stop laugher as you follow along on the great adventure as the pups save the day once again.

What: Come dressed for a red carpet affair to celebrate Hollywood’s best while raising money for the Calgary International Film Festival. There is no better excuse to get spiffied up! If you can’t make it, you can catch the Oscars on CTV.
What: From camping with wolves on Vancouver’s coastal beaches to filming leopards on the streets of Mumbai, it’s safe to say Bertie Gregory has truly seen it all from the lens of his camera. What: Life is one huge game! But what are the laws of chance and why do we get so involved? Listen up, all you competitive people! Come explore the background of gaming and even play a few games for yourself at this month’s Adults Only Night.
What: Consisting of three events, a three point shooting competition, a slam dunk contest, and a celebrity game, this exciting event is celebrating everything to do with basketball, while raising money for Mary’s Meals. It’s their goal to raise $18,206 which would provide a daily meal for 1,138 students in Malawi Africa. Let’s play some ball and help them blow their goal out of the water!
What: Come celebrate Women’s Day with some of Calgary biggest female movers and shakers. Start the night off with a red carpet by Avenue Magazine, sip on hand-crafted cocktails, and enjoy a screening of an exciting fashion film presented by CANIFFF. You’ll then enjoy a delicious three-course meal prepared by Chef Derek Wilkins accompanied by Veuve Clicquot bubbles as you take in a fashion show featuring some of the largest local designers and boutiques.
