June is really a wonderful month for many reasons.
Celebrate the season with the various festivals happening throughout the month, along with block parties, tea parties and every other kind of party imaginable. You can also find a ton of events that are taking place in honour of Canada’s 150th Birthday.
If you’re looking to spend a weekend or two outside of the city, or just want to enjoy the beautiful weather, there are a ton of summer festivities to take part in up in the mountains. Really any reason to head outside sounds good to us!
We know you’re thinking, how are we already half of the way through 2017, crazy we know! Here are 50 fun and festive events that you should probably check out this month!
What: Take a break from the heat and have an ice-cold bevy on one of Calgary’s best patios. From rooftops to hidden gardens, there are plenty of spots to choose from that will have the vibe and ambiance you’re looking for. Check out some of Calgary’s best rooftop patios here!
Grab a Root Beer Float from Village and Walk by the River
What: Re-live your childhood with the newest addition on Village Ice Cream’s menu, a handcrafted root beer float made with their signature vanilla bean ice cream. Can we get a big YUM! Head down to the river and take a stroll while you enjoy his delicious summery beverage!
What: Get away for a weekend as you recharge and rejuvenate on this 3 night retreat. With over 15 years of experience instructor, Saraf Harvie will be leading many of the sessions such as asana yoga, Pranayama Meditation and self-guided hiking tours.
What: Take your bike out for a cruise and enjoy the breathtaking scenery that this 22.3 KM trail has to offer! What: Join the nation’s largest dance party and celebrate Canada’s 150th Birthday! This groovy event is being organized by Canada’s National Ballet School and will include presentations of their 2017 choreography, free open dance classes, family activities and more. There will be a videographer at the event to capture all of the special moments throughout the day. They are also offering FREE dance rehearsals leading up to the event – see schedule here!
What: Decidedly Jazz Danceworks is offering a week of dance classes for only $5 per class! This is a great opportunity to try out a style you have never done before, try dance classes for the first time or come out of retirement and get your groove back on.

What: Join HIIT instructor, Luke Leimenstoll for 50 minutes of High Intensity Interval Training to the beat of your favourite 80’s hits! This class will get you moving as you sculpt, tone and shape those muscles into shape for summer. Don’t forget to dress up in your favourite 80’s gear!
What: Did someone say party? During the month of June, shop the fun and unique party décor from Dixie and Twine at Greater Goods located in the heart of Bridgeland. Be sure to grab a treat from Pretty Sweet and a Tea or Coffee to sip on while you shop the beautiful local goods that this local boutique has to offer!

What: New to the East Village this summer, this Pop-Up retail park offers Calgarians a place to shop, eat and play. Be sure to check out all 12 retailers located in 12 x 12 shipping containers, along with food trucks, live music and more!
What: Calgary’s favourite night market is back! Check out the first market of the summer on June 9th and enjoy a ton of live entertainment, food trucks, a wine patio and more, while shopping some of Calgary’s best local makers and artists!

What: Launching this June is a unique gourmet dining experience at Heritage Park that is a different alternative to a traditional restaurant! The 1929 “River Forth CP Rail Car” has been fully restored to its original beauty as a dining car so you can go back in time and experience what it would have been like to travel across Canada by train in the early 1900’s.
What: Many women in our community do not have accessible hygiene products and the amazing people at Only Kindness Matters want to help. Join them for a tea party as work to raise money and collect resources in order to distribute them amongst the women who really need them. There will also be a female artists showcase, with all sorts of live entertainment that you won’t want to miss!
What: Spend quality time with your kids as you both learn new cooking and baking techniques. You will be taking home a delicious treat along with memories that will last a lifetime. These pies will be sure to be a hit this summer!

What: Get your stomachs ready, there is a foodie scavenger hunt in town! Get a team of two together, solve clues and be lead 40 of the best culinary delights that our city has to offer! The race will begin at Eight Ounce Coffee and end at 5pm at the Tool Shed Brewing Company as everyone arrives with full tummies and ready for a beer.
What: Transport yourself to a traditional tapas bar in Spain! You will spend an evening consuming unlimited amounts of authentic Spanish tapas and drinks while learning about the food and the regions they come from.
What: Puppies and Prosecco, there is no better combination! Attend a private group training class for you and your pup on the patio of Vin Room Mission, led by the Dogma Behaviour & Education Centre. You will receive 2 glasses of wine or Prosecco and house made treats for your furry friend throughout the evening.
What: Tantalize your taste buds at the 1st annual Kensington Foodie Festival. There will be a variety of food-related events happening at different bars and restaurants throughout the neighborhood, between June 7 – 11. Be sure to check it out!
What: Wine and cheese, yes please! Join wine steward, Kevin Schorath for an evening as he takes you through specific and unique flights of wine from both Germany and Austria and teaches you how to pair them with cheese and charcuterie.
What: Get ready to laugh until you cry at the 17th annual FunnyFest! This is an event that is put on but hundreds of volunteers to bring laughter to the city of Calgary in a variety of ways. This is a great way to switch up date night or have a FUNny night out with friends!
What: Ready, set, jog! Spend quality time with your pup while you raise money for the Calgary Humane Society so that they can find loving forever families for thousands of animals. You will have an opportunity to get delicious eats from local food trucks, or grab a cold beer from their new all-age food-and-beverage garden from the Mutt & Mingle. There will also be a ton of other activities for all ages happening throughout the day!

What: It’s that time of year again where 4th street is overcome by one of Calgary’s largest and favourite street festivals! There will be hundreds of local makers, artists and food vendors for you to try, along with 6 stages with over 30 different performances happening throughout the day. There will also be a kids area set up with a ton of fun activities that they will be sure to enjoy. Kick festival season off with a bang with this fun and magical event!
What: On Sunday, June 4, Calgarians will join Canadians across the country for the 33rd annual World Partnership Walk to help fight global poverty. Walk to raise money for the Aga Khan Foundation with festivities starting at 10am.
What: It’s Thursday, which means most people who are social savvy are trained to look back at past events in their lives and more often than not post about it. #YOLO Come see what Telus Spark’s idea of #ThrowbackThursday may be!

What: Telus Spark is turning 50 and they want you to join them in the celebrations! Conveniently the event lands right on Neighbor Day, so that gives you all the more reason to celebrate. There will be a ton of fun happening throughout the day for all ages, such as bouncy castles, live entertainment, face painting arts and crafts, The Horizon Dome Show and more!
What: Sled Island is back and this year will be bigger than ever. For those who don’t know, this is a local 5-day music and arts show that brings together bands, comedians, filmmakers, artists and a whole lot of fans to create one large community. 5th Annual Red Bull Rocks & Logs EuduroCross
What: If you’re a motocross fan this is an event you won’t want to miss! Watch over 264 global motocross athletes compete in this event, while checking out the various vendors, beer gardens so much more.

What: UTOPIA is a research and exhibition project that aims to engage in a larger discussion on how our communities are formed, while also encouraging a dialogue on topics such as Nationalism, state-making, inclusion etc. Be sure t o check it out soon, as it ends in July!
What: Come celebrate the 30 anniversary of the SUNCOR Stage 1 this June! Lunchbox Theatre has gone on to create hundreds of new Canadian one-act plays throughout the years. Celebrate this amazing achievement, along with the 30-year partnership with SUNCOR energy which has made all of these things possible!
What: Star Wars and Star Trek fans unite! Led by guest orchestra conductor, John Morris Russell this unbelievable performance aims at giving an orchestral salute to these two Hollywood classics. The performance will be presented alongside spectacular astronomy images courtesy of renowned American astronomer Dr. José Salgado.
What: Come celebrate modern art and the opening of a new exhibition at the Banff Centre! This exhibition aims to focus on our perceptions of reality and how it affects our relationships and our present.
