The city services that are open or closed this Thanksgiving Long Weekend

Thanksgiving Monday is right around the corner, and the City of Calgary is making a few adjustments for the long weekend.

Some city services will be closed during the holiday, while others will be open for shortened hours.

Check our list to make sure that you won’t have any unpleasant surprises as you head out for the long weekend.

Transit

Calgary Transit will be providing a Sunday level of service this Monday, meaning that many bus and CTrain routes will be operating on limited schedules.

Parking

On-street parking will be free for Calgary drivers on Monday, October 8. Holiday rates will be charged at select parkades and surface lots in the city.

What’s open

East Calgary city landfill will be open all weekend, Spyhill will be open only on Saturday and Monday, and Shepard landfill will only be open on Saturday.

Village Square Leisure Centre and Southland Leisure Centre will be open from 11 am to 5 pm on Monday, October 8, and there will be free swimming from 1 to 2:30 pm and from 3 to 4:30 pm at the Acadia Aquatic and Fitness Centre, Bob Bahan Aquatic and Fitness Centre, and the Shouldice Aquatic Centre.

Free family skating will be available from 1 to 2:15 pm on Monday at Ernie Starr, Frank McCool, Murray Copot, Optimist and George Blunden, Rose Kohn and Jimmy Condon, Shouldice, Stu Hendry and Henry Viney, and Stu Peppard Arenas.

What’s closed

All City of Calgary administration buildings will be closed on Monday, October 8.

All athletic parks, golf courses, and the North Mount Pleasant and Wildflower Arts Centres will be closed on Thanksgiving Day as well.
