It’s Breakfast Week! We’re serving up a heaping plateful of delicious stories about the most important meal of the day–and where to get it in Calgary.

Most Calgarians would admit to having two vices—coffee and alcohol. If you can confess that coffee is your blood type, this list will guide your taste buds to blissful sipping. Get your caffeine buzz with an extra shot (or two, or three…) of liquid happiness mixed all in one cup.

Here is a list of where you should go to get boozy coffee drinks in Calgary.

Cleaver

The Clotted Cleaver drops the idea of a caramel drizzle on a coffee blended sensation and adds a spectacular substitute of caramel vodka instead. This iced coffee drink is also mixed with Kahlua, chocolate bitters, cream and an egg topped with whipped cream. You might as well consider it a joy-inducing liquid breakfast shake.

Ming Asian Bistro and Bar

There is no chance you can be depresso at Ming where they top off espresso shots with the delicious liquors you love. Try the Trotsky espresso spiked with Kahlua and vodka or, if you prefer your espresso with a touch of milk, go for the Toronto black shaken with Bailey’s and Kahlua.

To all of the java junkies out there, you’re going to need to control yourself with all of the coffee cocktails to choose from at Proof. This is the place to go for an authentic corretto—a.k.a a corrected espresso—made with Fratello espresso with your choice of Varnelli Anice Secco or Nonino grappa. You can also choose to cozy up with a Campsite Coffee made with Buffalo Trace bourbon, coffee liqueur, Cointreau and Fernet Branca served in an enamel mug. If you’re feeling adventurous to try your espresso with a touch of tonic and unsweetened Brennivin schnapps, give the Icelandic Layover a taste.

If you believe life begins after coffee, you’ll be rumbaing after a few sips (or glasses) once you get your hands on this Mexican take on an espresso martini made with Hornitos black barrel tequila, creamy rumchata with espresso.

Craft Beer Market

Starbucks can’t quite compare to this beer-based version of a cold caramel latte but Craft’s Last Best Caramel Latte is certainly worth sipping. This Fratello coffee ale is velvety and unfortunately not bottomless. With plenty of brews being casked monthly, keep on the lookout for other coffee flavoured beers like Station cold press coffee brew and O’Hara’s Irish stout.

Higher Ground

If you want to be living the vida mocha, wrap your hands around a warm mug of Coffee Crisp. This chocolate milk based espresso drink blended with Kahlua & Amaretto will solve a latte of your problems. Also available on the menu is the Higher Ground Kiss made with creamy Baileys, Kahlua topped with a generous dollop of whipped cream.
