One charge of arson has been laid following an incident at the University of Calgary last month.

On Thursday, March 1, the U of C Math Science Building was evacuated due to a small fire being lit inside a washroom, according to a release from the Calgary Police Service.

The blaze was promptly extinguished by a security guard with a nearby fire extinguisher, and the Calgary Fire Department later determined that it had originally been set in a garbage can.

No additional fires were found at or near the scene after the first had been extinguished.

Police and firefighters quickly determined that the fire had been caused by an act of arson.

After an investigation by the Calgary Police Service, 28-year-old John Kim has been charged with one count of arson causing damage to property.
