How much do miss your BC wine?

In light of the trade disputes that saw BC wine imports to Alberta take an immediate halt, a British Columbia-based travel company is providing wine-lovers with a unique solution.

Butiq Escapes is giving Albertans the perfect opportunity to get their fix of BC wines. Their latest trip, a “BC wine smuggling escape for Albertans,” is a smuggling run that helps travellers bring home some of BC’s best wine.

The company “refuses to let [their] petty governments ruin all the fun” for their neighbours in Alberta.

Their goal is to give travellers the wine-escape of a lifetime and make sure that they return to Alberta stocked up with as much BC wine as they can handle – or at least, what’s ethically reasonable.

The “vacation” works as such: the company will pick up groups of four to six in a private jet and fly them away to the Okanagan and Cowichan Valley – two famous regions in BC’s wine country.

It’s a luxe vacation that includes private chefs, tastings, and winery visits based on the group’s wine preferences. Anyone who takes part in the trip returns home with 50 bottles, which is hopefully more than enough to last until the ban is lifted.

You’ll need to have a hefty surplus of funds to take part in the escape, or, at least, be really desperate.

The smuggling trip includes flights, accommodation, private chefs, and a ridiculous amount of wine. But it’ll cost you nearly $13,000 for a group of four.
