Alberta Ballet announces 7 shows in Calgary this season

Alberta Ballet will be bringing seven shows to Calgary for the upcoming season, including Dracula, Alice in Wonderland and, of course, the Nutcracker.

Tickets go on sale on July 6; tickets to individual performances range from $33 to $124. Here’s the full rundown:

Shadowland by Pilobolus Dance Theatre

September 22-24

The Canadian premiere of Shadowland from the world-renowned, boundary-pushing Pilobolus Dance Theatre, telling the story of a teenager transported by the shadows lurking behind her bedroom wall into a dreamlike land of darkness, light, and adventure.

Dracula

October 27-29

Lose yourself in this legendary and opulent masterpiece – from the moment Dracula enters the stage with his 23-foot long cape until Sweet Svetlana meets her fate, this will be an extravagant evening to transfix you from the first kiss to the last bite.

The Nutcracker

December 16-24

Enter the legendary world of young Klara and her Nutcracker Prince in the Christmas classic we all know and love. The Kingdom of Sweets, Sugar Plum Fairy, and an army of mischievous mice all await you, this time returned to their authentic Russian setting.

Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo

January 12-14

The bad girls of ballet are back with their gender-bent, sublime and marvellously funny take on the most popular ballets of all time. With a huge cult following, even the Queen herself has been entertained by this all-male company and their antics.

Life by BalletBoyz

February 16-18

A stunning physical display of superior athleticism, sensitivity and astoundingly visceral storytelling of 10 powerful male dancers, the Canadian premier of Life is sure to impress you, as one of the hottest ballet companies in the world takes the stage.

Alice in Wonderland

March 16-18

Tumble down the rabbit hole and follow timeless heroine Alice into a world of mad hatters, rushed rabbits, Cheshire cats and croquet with the Queen of Hearts. A big and bold ballet, you’ll enjoy its opulent score, English-style choreography and innovative technology.

Our Canada

May 4-6

A pop ballet that celebrates Alberta Ballet’s 50th Anniversary and Canada’s 150th birthday, this magnificent legacy ballet is an interactive experience, exploring the province and our country through folk and country music legend, Gordon Lightfoot.
