Air Canada and WestJet named on 'World's Best Airlines' list for 2018

WestJet and Air Canada have been recognized on the 2018 World’s Best Airlines list.

The ranking, released today by AirlineRatings.com, has several different categories including Airline of the Year, Airline with the Best First Class, and Airline with best Business Class.

Air Canada was named the Best Long-Haul Airline in the Americas.

“Air Canada’s strategic focus has been on long-haul, international flying through our expanded global network and this recognition by the well-respected AirlineRatings.com is welcome affirmation of our success, “said Benjamin Smith, President of Passenger Airlines at Air Canada, in a release.

“The rating is based on a thorough evaluation of criteria that are priorities for Air Canada, including safety, fleet, onboard service and products, environmental stewardship, innovation and profitability.”

Calgary-based WestJet was named as the Best Low-Cost Airline in the Americas.

“WestJet is a carrier that has established a reputation for flair, humour and community engagement,”  the judges said. “We believe it is an airline going places.’’

Other notable winners include:

  • Airline of the year: Air New Zealand
  • Airline with the best first-class experience: Singapore Airlines
  • Best business class: Virgin Australia
  • Best economy class: Korean Air
  • Best cabin crew: Singapore Airlines
  • Best catering: Qantas
  • Best in-flight entertainment: Emirates
