Air Canada has rolled out a new program that allows passengers to bid on flight upgrades.

The auction-style upgrade lets passengers on select fights operated by Air Canada and Air Canada Rouge to move from economy or premium economy to a higher cabin class.

Interested passengers will be able to check their eligibility for an upgrade by visiting the Air Canada bid upgrade website, and entering the booking reference and last name. As well, the Canadian airline will be emailing eligible passengers 10 days prior to departure to invite them to upgrade their flight.

Travellers will find out if their offers are accepted 48 hours before the flight.

Although its unclear what the minimum bid is (it changes for every flight), Air Canada states that a chart on the offer page helps passengers determine the strength of the offer.

Bids will include all taxes and fees, and offers are subject to availability, along with the numbers of offers received and the amount offered – just like a regular auction.

Those who win their bids will receive a higher level of comfort and service, from larger seats with extra legroom to a fully flat bed, and of course, the in-flight dining experience.

So get ready, the Air Canada bidding starts now.
