Calgary’s ever-expanding restaurant scene has never been healthier; new additions are sprouting up all over the city.

Bringing with them a range of delicious and unique eats, here are five new Calgary restaurants to try right now:

Pure Contemporary Vietnamese Kitchen + Bar

Calgary’s newest Vietnamese restaurant, run by chef-owner Lam Pham, serves up a modern twist on traditional Vietnamese cuisine. Offering street-food inspired fare, as well as a range of elevated dishes, diners can expect to find well-flavoured regional staples presented in a fresh way.

Shokunin

Shokunin, the brainchild of Alberta-born chef Darren MacLean, opened in late January. Located in Mission, the Japanese izakaya-style restaurant offers a range of modern Japanese tapas eats, comprised of seasonally and locally-harvested ingredients. The dinner menu features a range of small plates, which have been designed to be sampled and shared, and include Spicy Maki Tempura, Braised Beef Tongue Gyoza, Octopus Fritters, and Roasted and Sake Steamed Eggplant.

Opening in Calgary’s Victoria Park neighbourhood in March, Ten Foot Henry offers a range of all-day eating options, family-style dining, fair trade organic coffee, and a solid cocktail list. Locally-based chef Stephen Smee (previously at Ox & Angela and UNA Pizza + Wine) heads the kitchen and has crafted a vegetable anchored menu that focuses on the bold flavours of North American cuisine.

Cluck ‘n’ Cleaver

Calgary’s Beltline district gained a new foodie addition back in March, thanks to newcomer Cluck ‘n’ Cleaver–a casual spot offering take-out Southern fried and French-style rotisserie chicken. Sister duo, Nicole Gomes (of Nicole Gourmet and Top Chef Canada season three) and Francine Gomes are spearheading the fast-concept eatery, where you can pick up delicious chicken, house-made salads, biscuits, and gravy.
