Suncor Stage One Festival

  • What: Nine scripts were selected for this year’s festival out of 100 which were submitted. Through the Suncor Stage One Festival, Lunchbox Theatre has become Canada’s leading development source and producer of one-act plays. At the end of each season, Lunchbox Theatre holds a series of staged readings of new works and invites audience members to give feedback during a discussion period.

Something Old, Something New: 125 Years of Wedding Fashion

  • What: See some of the most trendsetting and common wedding dresses in Alberta from the last 125 years. The exhibition features collections from the Museum of the Highwood, the Red Deer Museum, the Royal Alberta Museum, the Lougheed House Conservation Society, as well as numerous private collections.
  • Where: Lougheed House – 707 13th Avenue SW
  • When: Now until October 2
  • Cost: Regular admission $8.50

Michael Jackson’s Back from the Future

  • What: Doc and Marty need to travel back through time to meet a Mega-Popstar-Icon because the fate of the future may lie in his sequined-gloved hand.
  • Where: Jubilations Dinner Theatre – 1002 37th Street SW
  • When: Now until June 26
  • Cost: $67 and up

Five Alarm Funk

  • What: Vancouver’s horn powered Five Alarm Funk are known for their dance-filled shows, and eclectic sound. They bring their energy and funk into the city later this month.
  • When: Tuesday, June 14 at 8 p.m.
  • Where: Dickens, 1000 9th Avenue SW, Calgary
  • Tickets: Available online at $15. 18+

Plants and Animals

  • What: Montreal trio Plants and Animals have been around since 2008, and have gained quite the following in the last few years. With a recently released new album, the band is back in Calgary this month.
  • When: Tuesday, June 14 at 8 p.m.
  • Where: Marquee Beer Market & Stage, 4630 Macleod Trail South, Calgary
  • Tickets: Available online at $19. 18+

Adults only Night: Energy Series

  • What: A night of exploration and fun for adults only! There’s about 100 Watts per square meter of solar energy striking the planet every day. Fine out what you could do with that power if you could harvest just a fraction of it, while sipping on some wine.
  • Where: TELUS Spark – 220 St Georges Drive NE
  • When: Thursday, June 16 from 6 to 10 pm
  • Cost: $20+

Picnic in Vic Park

  • What: Haultain Park is gearing up to host a convoy of Calgary’s most beloved food trucks, when Picnic in Vic Park returns to the city for another year. Running over three consecutive days there will be 15 plus food trucks, live music from BassBus, giveaways, cold beer from Village Brewery, and a stack of things to see and do.
  • When: Friday, June 17 to Sunday, June 19, from 11 am to 7 pm (all three days)
  • Where: Haultain Park – 225 13th Avenue SW
  • Cost: $5 entry (free for kids under 14)

Okotoks Dawgs Games

  • What: See the Western Major Baseball League Okotoks Dawgs three times this weekend. The Dawgs are playing a total of 15 games in June.

Train Day

  • What: Have the best day with dad or friends on ‘trainist weekend of the year.’ See model train displays, children’s train rides, short Aspen crossing railway tours and more.

Neighbour Day

  • What: Neighbour Day is an opportunity for neighbours to come together in the form of a front yard barbecue, garden party, picnic, clean-up or afternoon tea in a local park to celebrate our strong community spirit in Calgary.

Rad Dad Day at Calaway Park

  • What: Celebrate dad’s day at Calaway Park. Great weather and dad or grandfather get in free with a kid.
  • Where: Calaway Park – 245033 Range Road 33
  • When: Sunday, June 19 from 10 am to 7 pm
  • Cost: Regular admission – Dad’s and Grandpa’s free when with a child

YYC Lobsterfest 2016

  • What: The second annual YYC Lobsterfest is coming to town June 18 and 19 at Market on Macleod. Treat your dad or yourself to one fresh lobster, plus a side dish, and your own personal bib (adults need them too for lobster). A cash bar will be set up for purchasing beer and wine with proceeds from the event going to the Calgary Firefighters Burn Unit.

Of Montreal

  • What: American alternative rock band Of Montreal have been around since the late 90’s. Many band members and 13 albums later, the band is back on the road touring their 2015 release Aureate Gloom.
  • When: Saturday, June 18 at 8 p.m.
  • Where: Flames Central, 219 8th Ave SW, Calgary
  • Tickets: Available online at $30. 18+

If you’ll be in Banff over the weekend, here are couple things happening there.

A Night at the Banff Mountain Film Festival

  • What: Every Thursday night in downtown Banff for 14 weeks, two identical shows per night will be shown featuring four unique film programs rotating each week.
  • Where: Lux Cinema – 229 Bear Street, Banff
  • When: Thursday, June 16 to Thursday, September 8. Shows at 7 and 9:30 pm
  • Cost: $12 can puchase online

Banff Marathon

  • What: Participants will start in the town of Banff, then make their way through a series of incredible natural, wildlife, pass by the serene Vermilion Lakes and journey along the stunning Bow Valley Parkway. Choose between a Marathon, Half Marathon and 10K run all finishing in Banff’s downtown Central Park.
  • Where: Banff, Alberta
  • When: Sunday, June 19
  • Cost: $65 and up
