Here are some of the top events to check out in Calgary this weekend, September 25 to 27.

Heritage Inn International Balloon Festival

  • What: A host to 27 international balloons from Belgium, UK, USA and Canada. The balloons will compete by navigating from one place to the next. The event will also feature Night Glow where the balloons will be lit up for viewing.
  • Where: 1104 11 Ave SE, High River
  • When: Wednesday, September 23 to Sunday, September 27, 2015
  • Cost: Free

Doors Open YYC

  • What: During this event experience any of the 43 participating places and buildings in Calgary you have never explored before as they will be open to the public for viewing.
  • Where: Various locations
  • When: Saturday, September 25 and Sunday, September 27
  • Cost: Free

Alberta Culture Days

  • What: An annual Pan-Canadian movement to raise awareness, participation, and engagement of all Canadians in arts and cultural life. There will be many free family events taking place over the three-day event, including rock concerts, dance demonstrations, historic exhibits, film screenings and more.

  • When: Friday, September 25 to  Sunday, September 27

Etsy: Made in Canada

  • What: Support the local community of handmade and vintage sellers at this pop-up market.
  • Where: Golden Acre Garden Sentre – 620 Goddard Ave. NE, Calgary
  • When: Saturday, September 26 at 9 a.m. to 5p.m.

Calgary Oktoberfest

  • What: Come check out brew from Germany and Calgary’s breweries. There will be live music, great food and beer.
  • Where: The BIG Four Building – 20 Roundup Way, Calgary
  • When: Friday, September 25 and Saturday, September 26
  • Cost: $19 to $30. Must be 18 or older to attend.

YYC Pizza Week

  • What: Over 40 pizza restaurants in Calgary will be competing in a 10 day pizza battle, putting their pizzas in one of three categories; thin, thick, or unique.
  • Where: Participating restaurants
  • When: Friday, September 25 to Monday, October 5

ILLUMINASIA garden and lantern festival

  • What: Come see authentic Chinese lanterns that will light up the zoo. There will also be authentic Chinese, Japanese and Indian entertainment and programs.
  • Where: Calgary Zoo – 1300 Zoo road NE, Calgary
  • When: Thursday, September 17 to Sunday, November 1; 7 to 10 p.m. (Thursday to Saturday) and 6 to 9 p.m. (Sunday)
  • Cost: $24 for adults and $18 for children

 Calgary International Film Festival

  • What: A 12-day showcase of 200 multi-genre films from Canada and over 40 other countries. The evening will host gala events, screening, award ceremonies and more.
  • Where: 207 214 11 Ave S, Calgary
  • When: Wednesday, September 23 to Sunday, October 4
  • Cost: Varies

Calgary International Flamenco Festival

  • What: A week of presenting international and local Flamenco featuring Flamenco star, Karen Lugo.
  • Where: University Theatre – 230 University Court NW and
    University Way NW, Calgary
  • When: Sunday, September 27 to Saturday, October 3

Print it Yourself Festival

  • What: Come participate in printmaking activities, taught by professional printmakers and engage yourself in arts and culture.
  • Where: 4025 4 street SE, Calgary
  • When: Saturday, September 26 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Cost: Free

Balletlujah!

  • What: Watch the Alberta Ballet’s production about tracing a young woman who abandons her hometown for romance.
  • Where: Jubilee Auditorium – 1415 14 Ave NW, Calgary
  • When: Thursday, September 24 to Saturday, September 26
  • Cost: $29 to $116 for adult, $20 to $116 for child and $29 to $95 for students and seniors

Run for Calgary (5, 10K, Other)

  • What: Run in support of providing a grassroots program to raise funds and awareness for non-profit and other social organizations in Calgary. Complimentary refreshments and kids entertainment will be present.
  • Where: Eau Claire Market SW, Calgary
  • When: Saturday, September 26 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
  • Cost: $30 for adult 5 and 10 km run and $15 for children ages 5 to 15 and Seniors 5 and 10 km run

Calgary Heartbeat Run (5K, 10K, Other)

  • What: The annual Calgary Heartbeat Run will be taking place on Sunday and supports the Calgary Health Trust and Libin Cardiovascular Institute of Alberta.
  • Where: The course starts and finishes in the new community of Chaparral Valley.
  • When: Sunday, September 27 from 10 a.m. to Noon
  • Cost: $25 to $50, registration closes September 24, 2015
