Beakerhead

  • What: Beakerhead combines together art and engineering and brings talent from far and wide to compete, build and exhibit interactive works of art. Beakerhead advances the understating of science and engineering as part of everyday life. Come immerse yourself and learn something new at their spectacular events.
  • Where: Various locations
  • When: Wednesday, September 16 to Sunday, September 20
  • Cost: Varies; most events are free

Illuminasia garden and lantern festival

  • What: Come see authentic Chinese lanterns that will light up the zoo. There will also be authentic Chinese, Japanese and Indian entertainment and programs.
  • Where: Calgary Zoo – 1300 Zoo road NE, Calgary
  • When: Thursday, September 17 to Sunday, November 1
  • Cost: $24 for adults and $18 for children

Calgary Home and Design Show

  • What: Is the authority on all things design, entertaining and home improvement. There will be informative presentations and 350 exhibitors.
  • Where: BMO Centre – 20 Roundup Way SW, Calgary
  • When: Thursday, September 17 to Sunday, September 20
  • Cost: $16 for adults over 13 ($13 online), $13 for seniors over 60 ($10 online), and free for children 12 and under

Crossroads Market

  • What: Enjoy farm-fresh produce, trinkets, and unique finds at this family-friendly market.
  • Where: 1235 26 Ave SE, Calgary
  • When: Year round Friday to Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

BowValley College 50th Anniversary Block Party

  • What: It will be a party to celebrate BowValley Colleges 50th anniversary and will feature Dean Stanton, Michael Fitzgerald, food trucks and more.
  • Where: Olympic Plaza – 228 8 Ave SE, Calgary
  • When: Saturday, September 19 at 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Cost: Free to public

Bella Concert Hall Opening Festival

  • What: This festival will feature 4 concerts that will include opera, choir, ballet, piano and more.
  • Where: Bell Concert Hall, Mount Royal University – 4825 Mt Royal Gate SW, Calgary
  • When: Saturday, September 19 to Saturday, October 3
  • Cost: Varies

Neon Run Calgary

  • What: Go for a 5km run and a neon festival afterward. Everything will be neon and there will be glowing neon water, laser lighting, fog, music and more.
  • Where: Spruce Meadows – 18011 Spruce Meadows Way SW, Calgary
  • When: Saturday, September 19 from 8 to 11 p.m.
  • Cost: $72 and up depending on the day you register

Chrome ’15

  • What: Featuring 100 luxury, exotic and classic cars, Chrome ’15 is a new car rally to gather all car enthusiasts and community in support for Big Brothers Big Sisters in a drive through Kananaskis.
  • When: Sunday, September 20 at 2 p.m.
  • Where: Grey Eagle Resort and Casino – 3777 Grey Eagle Dr, Calgary
  • Cost: $20 donation

Terry Fox Run 

  • What: Come commemorate Canadian Terry Fox and raise funds for cancer research. The run will have 1, 5, and 10 km routes. The run will also feature face painting, music and a BBQ.
  • Where: TELUS Spark – 220 St Georges Dr NE, Calgary
  • When: Sunday, September 20 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Lunch Box Theatre: What Gives?

  • What: A musical comedy about two 1930s Manhattan songwriters who are unexpectedly visited by a pair of adventuresses.
  • Where: Lunchbox Theatre – 115 9 Ave SE, Calgary
  • When: Now through to Saturday, October 3
  • Cost: $25 for adults and $20 for students and seniors
